Compared to traditional coal transport methods, which typically involve sea access to the Yangtze River, the Huazhong Coal Rail-Water Intermodal Project can deliver coal from Shanxi, Shaanxi and western Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region to large energy-consuming enterprises in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River and around Dongting Lake within 24 hours, saving about 15 days. This efficiency contributes to reducing social logistics costs, decreasing energy consumption and pollution emissions, and actively supporting energy supply in East China, as well as better serving the construction of the Yangtze River Economic Belt.
"With the commissioning of this dedicated railway line, the Haolebaoji-Ji'an Railway is upgrading again from a linear to a network model, positively promoting the increase in overall freight transport capacity and deepening freight reform," said Yang Zhanjun, Director of the Transportation Management Department of Haolebaoji-Ji'an Railway Company. Since its opening in September 2019, the Haolebaoji-Ji'an Railway has been vigorously implementing the "line-to-network" project, actively promoting the construction of dedicated railway lines, and encouraging social capital investment in or cooperation with freight consolidation and distribution projects. The principle is to "build where needed and connect where willing," providing comprehensive service throughout the process. As of now, 50 freight consolidation and distribution projects along the entire Haolebaoji-Ji'an Railway have been completed, forming a consolidation capacity of 107 million tons and a distribution capacity of 54 million tons.
