On September 16, a cold chain international train loaded with fresh vegetables and seasonal fruits slowly departed from the Mohan Railway Station of the China-Laos Railway, marking a milestone as the total cargo transported by international freight trains on the China-Laos Railway officially surpassed 10 million tons. This achievement showcases the rapid development of cross-border logistics via the China-Laos Railway, highlighting the deep potential and broad prospects of trade cooperation between China, Laos and other Southeast Asian countries.
As of September 16, Kunming Customs had supervised and cleared 10.002 million tons of import and export goods via the China-Laos Railway, with a total value of 40.77 billion yuan. The cross-border freight services of the China-Laos Railway now cover 12 "Belt and Road" countries, including Laos, Thailand, Vietnam and Myanmar, as well as 31 provinces, regions and cities in China. The range of goods transported has expanded to over 2,900 categories, and the number of daily trains has increased from 2 at the beginning to 17 today. Domestically, the China-Laos Railway connects with the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor and the CRE trains. Internationally, it provides a faster and more efficient logistics route linking China with South Asia and Southeast Asia, significantly boosting trade and economic cooperation in the region.
To further enhance the quality of cross-border cargo transportation, the railway authorities operate two daily "Thailand-Laos Express" international freight trains on fixed schedules, routes and train numbers. The express takes only 26 hours to travel from Kunming to Vientiane, meeting the growing demand for fast logistics. Since its launch, it has been widely embraced by domestic and international businesses, with over 1,400 trains having been operated on this route so far.
