Yangtze River Delta CRE Makes For Steel Silk Road

The reporter learned from CR-Shanghai that in the first six months of this year, CRE trains made 2,538 journeys (including return journeys) through the Yangtze River Delta, delivering 266,000 TEUs of goods, a year-on-year growth of 12.8%. The “iron camels” run to and fro between Asia and Europe, bridging international economic and trade cooperation.

The type of goods loaded on the CRE trains are getting richer, and the categories of goods are expanding and upgrading. In addition to the popular small commodities from Yiwu, textiles and garments from Southern Jiangsu Province, more competitive and high-value-added goods like photovoltaic components, automobile parts, machinery equipment, and white household appliances have flowed into the European market. Goods on the return trains have also gradually ranged from timber and auto parts to mechanical and electrical products, foodstuffs, medical equipment, machinery equipment, liquor, etc., which are quite diverse.

At the same time, the Yangtze River Delta CRE is bringing new ideas to its operation mode to sustainably improve quality and efficiency. For example, the railway department, customs and the port have jointly launched a new model for Lianyungang CRE, in which a container can be shared by bonded goods and exported goods. As the spare space of export containers is filled with small-lot goods, enterprises don’t have to wait for goods of the same category to fill up the container, so the time and cost of transportation are saved.
