Since 2023, CR has led efforts involving railway research institutions and equipment manufacturers to upgrade the CR400 smart Fuxing EMU train. The new trains, available in 8-wagon and 17-wagon formations, incorporate technologies for weight reduction, noise reduction, equipment integration, and layout optimization. These improvements have significantly expanded passenger space, increased carrying capacity, and added more second-class seats. The space for large luggage storage has also doubled. The 8-wagon train now accommodates 619 passengers, a 7.5% increase with 38 additional second-class seats. The 17-wagon train can carry 1,347 passengers, a 5% increase with 61 more second-class seats.
To better meet diverse passenger travel needs, the railway authority has upgraded some first-class seats to premium first-class seats in the 17-wagon trains based on market research. These premium seats, located in wagon 17, feature 24 shell-style electric seats with independently adjustable backrests and leg angles. They are equipped with foldable tables, power outlets, and adjustable reading lights. The seats provide increased legroom, can rotate 180 degrees for added comfort, and enhance the overall passenger experience. Passengers with premium first-class tickets also enjoy standard first-class services and can use designated areas for boarding and waiting.
